Allianz Global Assistance USA Provides Support for Local Charities and Students
Associates gave time, money to Angel Tree, CVFB & American Heart Association
RICHMOND, Va., Mar. 28, 2012 — Henrico-based Allianz Global Assistance USA, formerly Mondial Assistance USA, donated more than $70,000 to charities, most within the greater Richmond region, in 2011, and associates gave both time and money to local causes, such as the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, through company-sponsored activities. Also in 2011, Allianz Global Assistance USA received the Employer All-Star Award for Community Involvement from the Society for Human Resource Management. The Community Involvement Award recognizes the company’s volunteerism and financial support of charitable organizations, educational organizations and community service groups.
“Through our associate-directed giving, corporate giving, scholarships and volunteerism programs, Allianz Global Assistance USA aims to give back to the Richmond community we’ve called home for more than 20 years,” said Mark Cipolletti, vice president of communications for Allianz Global Assistance USA. “Our associates have told us that they care deeply about giving back to the community.”
In 2011, Allianz Global Assistance USA associates selected five charities, including four based in the Richmond area, to receive donations ranging from $4,000 to $6,000.
The recipients of the 2011 philanthropic awards were:
World Pediatric Project
Richmond’s Ronald McDonald House Charities
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
Central Virginia Food Bank
Jack and Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation
“Allianz Global Assistance USA wants to support the organizations that our associates are passionate about,” Cipolletti added.
For 2012, associates will once again vote on charities to support from the 19 groups selected by Allianz Global Assistance USA’s corporate social responsibility committee across three areas of focus, Travel, Health and Human Services, and Arts and Entertainment.
Since 2004, Allianz Global Assistance USA has given scholarships to area middle and high school students to offset costs of study abroad programs through its ScholarTrips program. The program is open to middle and high school students from the city of Richmond and the counties of Henrico, Hanover, Chesterfield, Goochland, Powhatan, New Kent and Charles City. Four recipients each receive scholarships of $2,500 for study abroad programs.
“We encourage Richmond area students to be global thinkers and citizens, and believe that international learning opportunities can help students achieve this mindset. We recognize that the cost of these programs can often be a barrier, and it is a privilege to support our area’s young people through ScholarTrips,” said Beth Godlin, president and CEO of Allianz Global Assistance USA. “Each day, we help customers all over the world with their travel experiences, so we understand how important it is to foster the sense of discovery that travel affords.”
Since the program’s inception in 2004, Allianz Global Assistance USA has awarded 20 scholarships to Richmond area students, which amounts to $50,000 in aid. This year’s applications were due Jan. 13 and the winners will be announced this spring.
Associates participate in numerous volunteer activities throughout the year, both on-site during work hours and off-site. In 2011, associates “adopted” more than sixty children through the Angel Tree program, participated in food drives and assisted with food sorting for the Central Virginia Food Bank, raised $2,000 for the American Heart Association, participated in four blood drives, and volunteered for multiple days of service at various organizations throughout the Richmond area.
In addition to the associate-selected charities and the annual scholarship program, Allianz Global Assistance USA directs support to local charities and causes, including sponsorship of the Byrd Theatre Foundation, the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Richmond-area campaign, Freedom House, the Jewish Community Center Cultural Arts Series and the Virginia Museum of Fine Art.
Matching Gift Program
Since 2011, the company has encouraged its associates to make donations to their favorite non-profit organizations by matching their donations dollar for dollar, up to the limit of the program. In its first year, more than 50 charities received matching donations from Allianz Global Assistance USA.
